The New K to 10 Curriculum: Let’s Go Back To Basic

The introduction of the new K to 10 Curriculum will possibly bring significant changes to the teaching and learning process in elementary schools. The new proposed curriculum has reduced the number of competencies to 3,600 from over 11,000 according to DepEd Sec.-VP Sara Duterte on her interview on social media. It aims to focus more on foundational skills for a better learning outcome. Teachers are also encourage to minimize things inside the classroom so the focus of the learners will be on the teacher and their lessons.


Learners may also face some challenges adjusting to the new curriculum. Some learners may struggle to adapt to the more rigorous and demanding content, as well as the need for active learning and collaboration. Additionally, some learners may require additional support and differentiated instruction in order to fully benefit from the new curriculum.

Nevertheless, the impact of the new K to 10 Curriculum on teachers and students can be significant and positive.
