San Juan Academic SHS wins 1st place in DOST-NCR Sining Siyensya

“We have technology and Science that are always improving and coping with the lives of many people, and that these technologies and Sciences may hold the answers to our problems," says Daniella C. Ybut, the San Juaneño behind the winning piece.

Young artist Daniella C. Ybut, STEM-12 of San Juan City Academic Senior High School, won first place in the DOST-NCR Sining Siyensya: Online Science Art Contest, with her piece entitled, "Nagahulat Kay Nimo", participated by thirty-one (31) junior and senior high school art enthusiasts in Metro Manila.

After a live auction, the win was announced on Thursday, November 18, via Zoom and DOST-NCR official Facebook page. Daniella’s work was sold for 10,000.00 pesos to Mr. Oscar Sevilla, Jr., Cluster Director of DOST-NCR PAMAMARISAN (Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan).

Ybut vividly explained her concept, " Nagahulat Kay Nimo" is a Karay-A term that signifies " Naghihintay Sa'yo". Her painting depicts individuals waiting tos be rescued from the outside of the glass. These people are trapped because of the pandemic. The saver is the man in the salakot, a half-robot, symbolizing the interaction between Filipinos and technology. The dark background reflects the social issues. She emphasized that despite the issues we face, "we have technology and Science that are always improving and coping with the lives of many people, and that these technologies and Sciences may hold the answers to our problems."

The awarding of certificate, plaque, and cash prize award was held in DOST PAMAMARISAN Ofice on December 10, 2021. Daniella was accompanied by her teacher-coach Ms. Dindi Joy Pajaron, also a former DOST scholar.
