San Juan 2023 NSPC qualifiers attend regional training

Eraño Angelo T. Offemaria and Mrs. Marivic T. De Ocampo of Salapan Elementary School, together with Samantha Gabrielle Oga and Martina Venice P. Doroteo of San Juan Science High School and their coaches, Mrs. Maria Corazon G. Ocampo and Ms. Fran Cathleen P. Castillo participated in the joint elementary and secondary regional training for 2023 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) qualifiers on July 5 and 6, 2023 at Hulo Integrated School (HIS) and City of Mandaluyong Science High School.


DepEd NCR conducted the said training to enhance their journalistic skills and prepare them for the National Schools Press Conference with the theme, From Campus Journalism to Real World Journalism Shaping Minds from Schools to Society on July 17 – 20, 2023 at Cagayan de Oro City.


The activity on the first day started with the registration of participants followed by the opening program. HIS principal Dr. Nimfa A. Matabang welcomed the campus journalists and their coaches. Mr. Jesus Valencia Jr., The NCRSSPAA President, acknowledged the presence of guests and presented the participants before the opening remarks, statement of purpose, and the message of the Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Aurelio G. Alfonso, CESO VI.


An intermission number of the chosen students of Hulo Integrated School preceded the presentation of the regional training team facilitators and schedule of activities.


For the training proper, the participants proceeded to their respective rooms at the City of Mandaluyong Science High School. Mrs. Maria Corazon G. Ocampo trained Eraño Angelo T. Offemaria, Samantha Gabrielle Oga, and the campus journalists from Pasig and Las Pinas for Science and Technology Writing while Martina Venice P. Doroteo had the training in Column Writing.


The training continued on the second day. Participants were given ample time to write news articles based on what they had learned.

At 2:30 p.m., San Juan NSPC qualifiers and their coaches together with the other NCR delegates gathered at Hulo Integrated School for the closing program. They were given time to memorize and practice the yell for NSPC. The schedule of activities for the 2023 National Schools Press Conference, travel details, and other matters were discussed before the closing remarks.


Excitedly looking forward to the National Schools Press Conference, the NCR delegates took turns to have the photo op with Dr. Gloria Tamayo before they left at 4:30 p.m.
