Gratitude for the Unsung Heroes: POV of an “Everyday Hero”

I always look forward to World Teachers' Day (WTD) because it is the time when I feel incredibly honored and valued for my commitment and effort over the entire year. And I must say that throughout this WTD 2023 celebration, I feel genuinely appreciated and treasured because of the unsung heroes who work tirelessly in the background- the General Parents Teachers Association (GPTA) officers and all the parents of Pedro Cruz Elementary School (PCES) learners.

I’d want to thank the outgoing GPTA officers and parents for their love, respect, and dedication they have shown not only on World Teachers' Day but every day since they took their oath. Their exceptional contributions, unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and commitment to PCES have left a lasting impression, and we are incredibly grateful for their service. They have demonstrated tremendous leadership and dedication throughout their tenure, going above and beyond to become the true unbreakable partners of the teachers and the school in general.

To ensure that WTD and other GPTA-led events are observed with the utmost care and consideration, GPTA officers have frequently assumed the responsibilities of event planners and coordinators. From planning the special event to decorating the venue to setting up memorable surprises--the finest part was treating the teachers to the delicious Viking’s buffet this year. Similar to the MAPEHmilya celebration from the previous academic year, the GPTA was in charge of organizing it as they put a lot of time, effort, and hard work into making it a success. Their participation improved the quality of the event as a whole, making the celebration lively and interesting for all learners and parents.

The school has now placed CCTV and a flagpole in front of the school, thanks to their fundraising effort. These would only be dreams without their assistance. They helped to provide the school with more resources. They even allocated time to help clean the comfort rooms of the school for an improved learning environment for everyone.

When I got the chance to talk to the outgoing president, Mr. Jerry Durens, he said, “The key is a good relationship with parents so they will cooperate. And when financial matters are involved, the association must be open to questions, transparent about the funds, and let the majority win.”

Truly, their dedication has been nothing short of outstanding, and their leadership has served as an inspiration to all of us. Their successes have set a high bar for the incoming officers. Their contributions will undoubtedly be cherished and remembered with appreciation forever.

Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the PCES-SPTA Officers for the School Year 2022-2023!
