CELEBRATING NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH IN STA.LUCIA
“We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational, and so disciplined they can be free.” ― Kavita Ramdas
In the Philippines, the Women’s Month Celebration has since served as a venue to highlight women’s achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges, and commitments.
As part of 2023 National Women’s Month with the theme “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society”. The Barangay and Sta. Lucia Elementary School (SLES) joined force to make it possible.
The Philippines is one of the few countries in the world that has adopted a GAD Policy Budget that requires all government agencies (including local government units) to utilize at least five percent of their respective total budgets for programs, activities and projects that address the needs and uphold rights of women.
In line with this, Sta Lucia SK Council, spearheaded by SK Chairman Caela Janelle D. Atienza held a seminar entitled, “Adolescent Health & Youth Development Seminar “ at Multipurpose Hall in coordination with San Juan Population Development (POPDEV) and Sta Lucia Elementary school. This was attended by the Grade Six -students of Sta. Lucia Elementary School.
The program focused on improving the health of young people, aged10-19 and providing educational and skill building workshops and programs that help them navigate safely through adolescence and into adulthood.
Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood and adulthood, from ages 10 to 19. It is a unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundations of good health. Adolescents experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth. This program really helped them to understand better their stages and Science Teachers use forum such as this as one of the strategies in making the lessons very interesting for the learners.
Indeed, this activity was very successful with the help of different stakeholders, Barangay Chairman Eustaquio Belches and his Officials, Barangay Sk Council headed by SK Chairman Caela Janelle D.Atienza, SLES principal Mr. Vito L. Mengote and the two advisers of the participants namely, Ma. Cecilia T. Cajayon Adviser of Grade 6 –Rizal and Leonalyn V.Ramillano, adviser of grade Six – Bonifacio. This would not have been possible if not for the active participation of the grade Six pupils.
Kudos everyone!
