ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM MOVING UP CEREMONIES
In the Philippines, a non-formal education initiative called the Alternative Learning System (ALS), strives to educate students who were unable to complete their conventional education. It is a program for those who want to learn and obtain an education, including out-of-school children, adults, and even inmates. Numerous Filipinos have changed their life after receiving education thanks to the ALS program. The program has aided several Filipinos in gaining information and skills that have improved their lives, helped them support their families, and allowed them to take part in the growth of their communities.
On August 5, 2023, SDO San Juan City held its ALS Moving Up Ceremonies in Pinaglabanan Elementary School Multi-Purpose Hall with the theme, “Gradweyt ng K to 12: Hinubog ng Matatag na Edukasyon”. Out of 180 ALS completers for this academic year, including BJMP passers, one selected ALS passer shared her experiences and described the challenges she overcame to complete her education. She had to take on sidelines to help her family while she studied, and had to deal with personal difficulties that may have made her give up on her education.
The Department of Education, SDO San Juan personnel, ALS teachers who have mentored the learners, and the graduates themselves can all be proud of their accomplishments. It represents not only the success of their academic careers but also the start of a more promising future filled with possibilities that can transform the world.
