The first ever Invent School Program (ISP) was successfully held last October 10 – 11, 2017 at the Grade 11 Bldg., San Juan National High School. The event was organized in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology as one of their assistances to the Senior High School. Coun. Cris Mathay graced the opening ceremony as the guest of honor and Dr. Emma Sendiong from the Division Office. Both gave inspiring messages to the students in becoming future young inventors. DOST experts who stimulated the creative minds of the students are Ms. Elvin Almazar, Sr. Science Research Specialist of DOST NCR, Ms. Janet N. Cruzada, Sr. Science Research Specialist of DOST-TAPI with their respective facilitators Sheena Marie Cruz and Ms. Sarah O. de Guzman.
DOST’s ISP involves the conduct of a two-day seminar/workshop for elementary, high school and college students and out of school youth in cooperation with inventors’ groups, LGUs and NGOs to stimulate students’ interest in creativity and inventiveness and create awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Protection. For San Juan City, this ISP was endorsed by the Division Office which is being participated initially by 50 senior high school STEM students/science club members from five (5) different schools – Aquinas School, PUP San Juan, San Juan National High School - Special Science High School & Gr. 12 STEM and lastly Tabernacle of Faith.
In the two-day seminar-workshop, mixed students from different schools were grouped together and took part in making creative and challenging outputs. On the last day, students come up with their innovative prototype “inventions” out of available scrap materials. Awards and some tokens were given to the winners during the Closing Ceremony at the SJNHS Audio Visual Room.
Awarding of certificates to all the participants and DOST experts was lead by SJNHS principal, Ms. Lucila G. Artuyo together with Ms. Michelle R. Cordovilla and Ms. Evelyn S. Plaza of the SJNHS – Senior High School.
The 2nd batch of ISP is being slated on the 1st quarter of 2018 as announced by the DOST NCR.
