DOST: Gates Open for San Juan National Senior High School
San Juan National Senior High School’s STEM (Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) strand and chosen students from the Business Club conducted a visit and attended the DOST orientation about the latest trends in Science and Technology, researches, innovations and inventions on the morning of October 7, 2016, Friday at TAPI-DOST Compound, Gen. Santos Ave., Bicutan, Taguig, Metro Manila.
Part of the mandate of the K to 12 program is to assist students to be college ready especially in the field of STEM (Science & Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as well as to be globally competitive. Aside from DOST’s current structure and inspiring breakthroughs through the ladder of research, inventions, and innovation, the learners were also oriented in line with the available scholarships and career paths in Science and Technology. They were also given a special tour opportunity through the different prototype inventions exhibit of the institution after the orientation.
Another remarkable opportunity provided to the learners is the chance to visit the DOST Food Processing facility. There, they were taught about the uses of the different heavy duty equipment around the area. Different procedures in food processing were the highlight of the speaker’s subject matter.
The activity was made possible by the efforts made by Evelyn S. Plaza, Business Teacher and PFP (Partnership Focal Person) Assistant Coordinator and Zamir D. Laud, Science Teacher and PFP member, headed by the PFP Chairperson and Senior High School Coordinator, Maria Aileen B. Callorina. Together with the Development Teacher Juan Britannico, a total of 35 students joined the activity that lasted half a day.
